My Approach to Therapy for Couples and Individuals:
I have extensive clinical experience and training under experts in the field in work with distressed individuals and relationships. I am a Certified Emotionally Focused Supervisor and Therapist for couples, individuals and families by the International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (www.iceeft.com). The non-judgmental, collaborative and active processes at the heart of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) in addition to its effectiveness and extensive research backing are a perfect fit with my personal and professional values.
I also offer periodic EFT-based relationship enhancement workshops for couples and families that can be a really helpful way to get the process started or to support your current therapy work. These workshops are not intended to be a substitute for therapy. Please inquire if you are interested learning more about the 2-day relationship enhancement workshops I offer.
My approach to individual therapy will depend on your specific circumstances. Stated in general terms, the therapy relationship helps foster self-awareness in a way that encourages you to be less critical and judgmental of yourself and others, and more confident about making the changes that can move you through difficulties and toward what matters most in your life. Contact me and we can discuss in more detail what you're experiencing and how therapy can be helpful. If you describe circumstances that I believe would be better treated by one of my colleagues, or if we're not able to find a meeting time that works, I'll be happy to get you headed in the right direction. If you are in crisis you can reach caring, non-judgmental help at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (800-273-8255) and a medical emergency room. They have the people and resources to help you stay safe and organize a path forward.
