At Individual and Relationship Counseling Associates, we work from a place of transparency regarding the cost of therapy sessions and the therapist and client collaborate together on length of treatment and overall care.

INSURANCE

We are contracted with a limited number of insurance providers, including Hometown Health Plan in Reno. Many insurance companies limit coverage for couples and the licensure of the therapist for reimbursement so make sure to verify your specific insurance plan for details. We do accept HSA or FSA (health or flex savings account) payment.

Please read this article for a comprehensive guide to help you learn what amount your insurance will cover for therapy. You can also email us to receive a printable version.

Insurance plans often exhibit variations in reimbursement rates, distinguishing between “in-network” and “out-of-network” providers. If we categorize as out-of-network providers, we will compile a comprehensive service record ("superbill") for you, smoothing the path for your reimbursement process. Furthermore, we encourage you to reach out to your plan administrator, generally accessible via the number on your insurance card, to obtain details regarding your mental healthcare reimbursement policies.

Below, we have outlined a series of questions to assist you in talking about coverage with your carrier:

  • Do I qualify for mental health insurance benefits?
  • Does my plan cover services for relationship/marriage issues?
  • Have I met my deductible?
  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance allow?
  • What coverage does my plan offer per therapy session, and what will be my out-of-pocket expense?
  • Does my primary care physician need to approve the therapy sessions?

We can discuss this with you during the free consultation call with one of our therapists in Reno.

Understanding Therapy Costs Near Me: Out-of-Network Options

How Out-of-Network Therapy Costs Work

"Out-of Network" means our practice isn't contracted with you insurance provider. When you see an out-of-network provider, you pay for the session upfront. Then, you file a claim with your insurance company to get reimbursed for part of the cost. Filing a claim involves filling out a form about the care your child received and sending it to the insurance company, usually by mail. Your provider will give you a superbill, a document that explains the type of care you received, to include with your claim.

Key Factors in Therapy Costs Near Me for Out-of-Network Care

When considering the cost of out-of-network care, keep these factors in mind:

  • Insurance companies usually cover less for out-of-network providers. For example, you might pay a $25 copay for an in-network provider but $35 for an out-of-network provider.
  • Insurance companies don’t reimburse you based on what you paid your provider. Instead, they use an allowable amount—the amount they consider reasonable for a service in your area. For instance, if the allowable amount for a therapy session is $100 but your provider charges $125, the insurance company will only reimburse you as if the cost were $100.
  • Your deductible applies to out-of-network care. Insurance won’t reimburse you until you’ve met your deductible for the year.

Pros and Cons of Out-of-Network Services

Using out-of-network benefits can make finding care easier. You’ll have more providers to choose from, and you might be able to start therapy sooner since there are fewer waitlists.

However, out-of-network care is usually more expensive. You’ll pay upfront, and getting reimbursed can be time-consuming and complicated.

Insurance companies often reject claims for minor mistakes, like misspelled names or wrong birthdates. If you use out-of-network benefits, double-check your claims carefully.
